5. Warm Up Flash Cards
In Dance Wellness by M. Virginia Wilmerding and Donna H. Krasnow (2017), the authors explain that a good warm up goes through the following phases:
- Gradual Pulse Raiser
- Joint Mobilizer
- Short Stretches
- 2nd Pulse Raiser
Dance ED Tips' Warm Up Cards are designed to help you and your dancers go through these 4 phases by creating a fun, new warm up every time you come to class! All you have to do is print them out, cut them out, and – if you’re fancy – laminate them!
6. Improvisation Cards
Getting dancers to step out of their comfort zone when improvising can be… tough. Dancers often end up feeling shy and doing the same kind of movements over and over. This struggle was the inspiration for DET’s Improvisation Cards.
In this deck of card we’ve included loads of interesting prompts to get dancers excited about improvising and also push them outside of their comfort zone. They’re also great for creating choreography and much more!
All you have to do is print them out, cut them out, and – if you’re fancy – laminate them!
7. Freeze Dance Cards
Are you tired of playing the same old Freeze Dance?? I know it’s a classic dance game that kids know and love, but I think this game is ready for makeover! That is why my team created these awesome Freeze Dance Cards!
In this deck of cards, there are “freeze like” cards and “move like” cards. Each card has different imagery that the dancers must embody when they freeze or when they move.
Another fun part about this deck is that each “freeze like” card has a corresponding “move like” card. For example, we have “Move like Spaghetti” and “Freeze like a Meatball.”
You can have extra fun with these cards by having students find their corresponding card and then embodying them. They’re also great for creating choreography and much more!
All you have to do is print them out, cut them out, and – if you’re fancy – laminate them!
8. Feedback Cards
Having dancers give feedback to one another can sometimes be… really awkward. Sometimes they are too brutal. Sometimes they aren’t descriptive enough.
With DET’s Feedback Cards you can help your dancers learn how to give constructive critiques and thoughtful feedback. They are great for students of all ages and can help you develop an inviting classroom culture where everyone feels comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
All you have to do is print them out, cut them out, and – if you’re fancy – laminate them!
